SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Davis grabbed the first set against regular season champions UC Santa Barbara, but the talented Gauchos won the next three sets to down the Aggies (24-26, 25-21, 25-21, 25-11) on Friday night inside the Thunderdome.
The Aggies fall to 13-14 overall (8-9 Big West) as they approach the regular season finale tomorrow night. The Gauchos continue their impressive season, improving to 26-3 (16-1 Big West) as the regular season champions win their sixth straight match and remain unbeaten on their home court.
Jade Light led the way with a team-high 13 kills at a .225 clip while chipping in with eight digs on the defensive end.
Reese Diersbock enjoyed her first double-digit performance since Oct. 17 by knocking down 11 kills on the night.
Olivia Utterback reached double figures with 10 kills, but also impressed defensively with her 14 digs.
Mia Starr shined yet again at the setter position with her second-best assist tally of the year, handing out 37 assists in the fifth double-double of her freshman campaign. Starr snuffed out 10 digs and posted a pair of kills in her excellent showing.
