DAVIS, Calif. – It was a frustrating day for UC Davis men's soccer, suffering a 3-0 defeat to UC Riverside on home ground, finishing the match with just 10 men.
Two first-half goals stunned the Aggies as the hosts were unable to find any sort of rhythm on Saturday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field. Tensions boiled over in the second half when a red card was shown, and the home side would be forced to play down a man for the last 35 minutes of the contest. Shortly after the sending off, the Highlanders quickly wrapped things up with their third goal to earn all three points.
Diogo Baptista hit the Aggies for two goals in the first half to give his team the early advantage. The attacking midfielder blasted his shot into the top corner for the opening goal in the 24
th minute.
Less than eight minutes later, Baptista doubled the lead when he combined with Edward Castro and finished off a brilliant attacking move. The Highlanders would take this two-goal lead into the break.
In the early minutes of the second half, frustration got the best of UC Davis and
Marcus Garcia was shown a red card, reducing the Aggies to 10 men. UC Riverside would quickly take advantage when Armando Ibarra Jr. rounded the keeper and tucked his shot home to solidify the 3-0 score line and all three points for his squad.
UC Davis sits in joint fourth place with seven points (2-3-1) during the 2023 campaign, however, the rest of the table still has a game in hand.
