Sanchez's two goals lead Aggies to first win in 2022

DAVIS, Calif. – Senior Brooke Sanchez stayed active for the Aggies this weekend recording two goals to lead UC Davis to a 4-2 victory over Bellarmine Sunday morning. After recording her first goal of the season this past Friday against Michigan State, Sanchez carried that momentum into Sunday's match finding the back of the net with both goals coming by assist of sophomore Caroline Stutte.

The Aggies pick up their first win of the 2022 season and move to 1-2 overall.

Taking an early 0-1 deficit after allowing a goal to Bellarmine's Amber Hofenkjerembo 12 minutes into the first period, UC Davis would respond at the 21:02 mark by way of a Lizzy Tedrow goal, her first of the year. The middle of the game was dominated by Sanchez scoring at the 26:09 mark, and again at the 31:00 mark. After passing up a few open shots in the first half, Assistant, Rachel Stauffer encouraged Sanchez to be more aggresive on the sidelines with creating her own shot and it paid big dividends for the Aggies.

Carrying a 3-1 lead for the second half of the game, UC Davis was able to add on one more score when freshman Karly Redman netted her first collegiate goal of her career to close out the third period and gave UC Davis a 4-1 cushion heading into the final period.

Bellarmine would not go down without a fight as they responded back with a goal of their own 50 minutes and 24 seconds into the game. But it would not to be enough, as the insurance goals from the Aggies were able to close out regulation with a final score of 4-2.

UC Davis came out very aggressive today and the story of the game was the Aggies being able to outshoot their opponent by a margin of 20-7.

The Aggies have a quick turnaround as they pick back up play tomorrow at home against Indiana University. First pushback is scheduled for 9 a.m. PDT.
