Aggies drop match to Indiana on Labor Day

DAVIS, Calif. – After capturing the first win in the Austin Pile era against Bellarmine on Sunday, the Aggies with a quick turnaround, lost Monday morning's non-conference match against Indiana University by a score of 0-2. UC Davis came out aggressive this match and outpaced the Hoosiers in shots by a margin of 21-11 as well as shots on goal with a 7-4 advantage. Even with quality looks and two shots on goal a piece by Zoe Mohrman, and Grace Austin, the Aggies just couldn't get the ball to bounce there way as they move to 1-3 in the 2022 season.

The Hoosiers got off to a quick start after capitalizing on a penalty corner 7 minutes and 51 seconds into the game when Kylie Dawson made an entry on the corner finding Sofia Arrebola who then set up Anna Mozeleski to give Indiana a one goal lead. Indiana sealed the game at the 54:49 mark when Kayla Kiwak was able to beat Kalli Wagnon after a Jemima Cookson assist. Indiana moves to 3-2 on the year after finishing a west coast trip seeing them go 3-0.

UC Davis had plenty of chances to score but was faced with some bad luck combined with quality defense from the Hoosiers. The Aggies were around goal all day and it showed in form of a penalty corner advantage in favor for UC Davis at a 9-4 margin but they were consistently faced by Indiana's goalkeeper Arabella Loveridge who had six saves to earn the clean sheet.

At the beginning of the fourth period, Coach Pile echoed the message to his team that they needed to "dig deep" and in this early morning Monday match, it felt like as the game went on UC Davis slowly was building the momentum by drawing quality looks throughout but just came up short in the end.

After a jam-packed weekend with three games in four days, the Aggies get some much needed rest before their next match against Wake Forest. They take on the Demon Deacons Friday, Sept. 9 with first pushback set for 1:00PM PDT.
