Wolbert earns All-America nod from Collegiate Baseball

Tucson, Ariz. - Mark Wolbert's standout debut season in a UC Davis uniform continued to garner accolades on Wednesday with Collegiate Baseball naming the Petaluma native to its Freshman All-American Team.

Wolbert is the only freshman field player in the Big West to be named a Freshman All-American and one of just three freshman total in the conference to make the team.

UC Davis' everyday center fielder, Wolbert has already been named the Big West Freshman Field Player of the Year and All-Big West First Team. He is the first Aggie since Jake Jeffries in 2008 to be recognized by Collegiate Baseball and the first ever to be named a Freshman All-American.

Wolbert led the Big West in average during the conference schedule, batting .410 and .351 on the season with the latter ranking fifth in the Big West. He was one of just seven players to post an OPS over 1.000 during the conference slate with a 1.060 OPS. He also led the Big West in hits during the conference schedule with 48 over 30 games and had the third-most total bases in that span.

He went on a 13-game hit streak during April that saw his average climb as high as .370, a stretch that included back-to-back four hit games. Wolbert had 16 multi-hit games and led UC Davis in nearly every offensive statistical category. He committed just one error in 103 chances in the field, starting 39 of 41 games.
