Davis, Calif. - For the eighth consecutive year, UC Davis are winners of the annual Causeway Cup.
The Aggies prevailed 45-35.01 and now lead the 18-year history of the award 12-4. The award was not given for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years due to various competition pauses and cancelations due to COVID-19.
The 2021-22 year saw UC Davis' women's cross country team finish in ninth at the NCAA West Regional to the Hornets' 20th place finish. Aggie gymnastics and beach volleyball also swept a pair matchups each with the Hornets. UC Davis' men's and women's tennis teams won a match each, as did Aggie men's and women's soccer. Women's basketball won 75-46 at the Golden 1 Center and men's golf finished sixth at the El Macero Classic, two spots above Sac State.
Each sport is assigned five points for a win if the teams meet only once and divided further for however many matchups occurred. The exceptions to this rule are cross country, where only results at the NCAA West Regional are used, and gymnastics, where only head-to-head dual meets are used for scoring. Track and field points are also only determined by the annual Causeway Dual.
The Sac State and UC Davis men's cross country teams as well as baseball programs did not compete at any point this season.
