Aggies fall to Long Beach State ahead of senior day

Davis, Calif. - UC Davis got off to an even start behind lefty Bryan Green but weren't able to clip Long Beach State in game two of the series, falling 13-1 on Friday.

The game was final after eight innings due to both coaching staffs agreeing to a 10-run lead mercy rule after seven innings for each game of the series.

Green got out of a bases-loaded, none out jam in the first without allowing a run. He allowed just two earned runs over five innings on five hits and five walks with four strikeouts with the Dirtbags only getting to him for two runs in the fifth inning after a leadoff error.

With the game at 4-1 through five innings, Long Beach State added a run in the sixth and seventh innings before scoring seven in the eighth to trigger the mercy rule.

After the Dirtbags opened scoring with two runs in the third inning, UC Davis responded in the bottom half with Omar Plascencia leading off with a walk and James Williams III hitting a single up the middle to drive in Plascencia.

Williams III went 1-3 had has hit safely in six of his last seven games. He was one of six Aggies to collect one hit with Raul Sandoval, Jonah Henrickson, Nathan Peng, and Kyler Arenado each going 1-3. Plascencia went 1-2.

The Aggies (6-34, 5-24) will wrap up the 2022 season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. first pitch against Long Beach State and a pregame ceremony honoring seniors Nate Lemos, J.D. Mico, Sandoval, and Arenado.
