UC Davis Takes Series Over UCSD with 8-5 Victory

DAVIS, Calif. --The UC Davis Aggies took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to an 8-5 victory and series win over the UCSD on Sunday.

Freshman Bryan Green (2-5) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UC Davis. The southpaw went five innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on eight hits, allowing two walks and striking out two. Freshman Carson Seeman also made an impact on the mound for the Aggies, starting the ballgame and throwing three shutout innings while allowing two hits.

Junior Raul Sandoval led the way offensively for the Aggies, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple and two RBI. Freshman Nick Leehey provided a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Freshman Mark Wolbert also helped out, going 3-for-5 for UC Davis.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Aggies put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. UC Davis put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Sandoval.

The Aggies then held the Tritons scoreless before expanding their lead in the fifth inning. UC Davis picked up two runs when a single from Leehey brought home freshman Riley Acosta and Wolbert, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Aggies.

UCSD narrowed UC Davis' lead to 4-2 before the Aggies stretched the advantage to 8-2 in the seventh inning. The Aggies bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of junior Nathan Peng. UCSD put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but UC Davis still held on for the 8-5 win.
