Aggies shut out by Hawai'i to open series

Davis, Calif. - Nate Freeman threw his second quality outing of the season on Friday but it wasn't quite enough to overcome Hawai'i as the Aggies fell 0-3 in the opener of a three-game series with the Rainbow Warriors.

Freeman took over in the third inning and allowed just two earned runs on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts. It's the second time Freeman has gone seven innings and allowed two earned runs in his last three outings. Friday was the longest outing of Freeman's career without a walk and the third time in his career he's pitched seven full innings.

Nathan Peng opened for the Aggies, allowing just one unearned run when a ball skipped off the glove of Omar Plascencia for a passed ball and no hits.

The Aggies out-hit Hawai'i 8-5 and from the third inning on did not go down in order once.

Nick Iverson was 3-3 to pace the UC Davis offense. Jake Brandel went 2-3 while Mark Wolbert went 1-4 to extend his hit streak to 11 games.

UC Davis return to Dobbins Stadium on Saturday for a 1 p.m. Picnic Day start with a pregame ceremony honoring the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Aggies taking place prior to the game.
