Davis, Calif. - UC Davis led 14-10 entering the fourth quarter but a big final period by the Cal Bears handed the Aggies a 15-16 loss at UC Davis Health Stadium on Saturday.
Saturday's game marked the final home contest of the season for UC Davis (5-6).
Alex Agnew matched her season-high with four goals and added four assists to lead the Aggies. With 33 assists on the season, Agnew is now third on the all-time list in single season assists and eight on the career list with 55.
Kendall Seifert had three goals and one assist, her 10th multi-goal effort of the season.
Ella Brislin and Grace Gebhartdt each scored twice while
Mia Lawrence,
Natalie Wilson,
Brooke Long and
Natalie Markman contributed a goal apiece.
Markman's eighth goal of the season got the scoring started at the 8:43 mark of the first quarter and UC Davis led 3-2 through one period after goals by Brislin and Lawrence. Cal scored four straight to lead 5-7 in the second period before the Aggies began a game-changing run. The Aggies went on a 9-1 scoring stretch that saw them leading 14-8 after Brislin's second goal of the day with 1:21 to go in the third.
The Bears scored twice in the final 30 seconds of the third but Seifert's third goal of the afternoon with 13:33 to go kept it a 15-10 game. Cal scored six straight over the final 7:36 of game time to leave with a win though.
UC Davis will finish the 2022 season on the road with stops at San Diego State on April 24 and USC on April 30.
