Henderson, Nev. - UC Davis used a late scoring spurt to gain separation and the Aggies advanced 63-53 over Cal Poly in Tuesday night's Big West Conference Tournament First Round game in Henderson, Nev.
Tied at 43 with 5:34 to go,
Elijah Pepper stepped into a three from the left side of the arc and
Christian Anigwe drove around a Cal Poly defender to create separation at 48-43. With Cal Poly pulling back within 50-47, the Aggies went on an 8-1 run to go up 58-48 with 1:35 to play. UC Davis went 5-7 from the line in the final 1:14 to seal the game.
Ezra Manjon led UC Davis with 17 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Caleb Fuller scored in double-figures for the fourth straight game since returning from injury, adding 16 points and eight rebounds.
Elijah Pepper was the third Aggie in double-figures scoring with 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Aggies got contributions from up and down their lineup though.
Cameron Ba hit a three-pointer with 8:05 to play that made it a two possession game at 43-37 and
Kane Milling continued to find ways to fill up the box score with four points, four rebounds, and two steals to finish plus-14 over 33 minutes.
The Aggies committed their fewest turnovers in a game with 11 since committing nine against CSU Bakersfield on Feb. 19. On the other side of the ball, they turned 17 Cal Poly turnovers into 17 points.
UC Davis will now face Cal State Fullerton for a third time this season in the quarterfinal round on Thursday at 6 p.m.
