UC Davis nearly upend Colorado with second half surge

Boulder, Colo. - UC Davis nearly overcame an eight-goal deficit with a second half surge against Colorado on Sunday but the Aggies fell 17-13 in Boulder. 

The Aggies trailed 12-4 at the half before outscoring Colorado 4-1 in the third period to get within 13-8. UC Davis started the period scoring three unanswered with Grace Gebhardt scoring twice and Alex Agnew once while Regan Arkless scored with an assist from Ella Brislin with 13 seconds left in the third. 

Brooke Tokushige and Agnew opened scoring in the fourth to pull the Aggies within 13-10 but the Buffalos scored two straight to go up by five with 9:09 to go. Kendall Seifert scored with Agnew on the helper to make it 15-11 until Colorado again responded with two goals to lead 17-11 with 2:06 remaining. Gebhardt completed her hat trick with an assist from Tokushige with 1:13 left and Brooke Long scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Agnew with 52 seconds left to round out scoring on Sunday. 

It was the Aggies who struck first in a game that was moved to Colorado's indoor practice facility Seifert scored twice and Lawrence once in the second period before the Aggies' comeback began in the third. 

It was a trio of hat tricks for the Aggies with Agnew, Gebhardt, and Seifert each netting three goals with Agnew adding three assists. Agnew, Gebhardt and Seifert have now scored multiple times in three of UC Davis' four games so far while Seifert and Lawrence are the only Aggies to score in all four matches. 

UC Davis (4-4) will get back-to-back games at home for the only time this season in the next week, hosting Liberty on Mar. 11 and Stanford on Mar. 13.
