UC Davis falls 68-65 to Long Beach State on buzzer-beater

LONG BEACH, CA --The UC Davis men's basketball team fell to the Long Beach State Beach 68-65 on the road Thursday on Colin Slater's buzzer-beating 3-pointer with just one second left on the clock.

The Aggies (12-9, 5-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Ezra Manjon, who had 16 points and five assists. Kane Milling tacked on 14 points and six rebounds and Elijah Pepper helped out with 11 points.

The UC Davis offense was very productive from deep, knocking down eight threes on 21 attempts. Milling was the most prolific shooter for the Aggies, draining three treys in the contest.

UC Davis' defense held Long Beach State to only 36.5 percent shooting from the field. The Aggies also limited Slater to 1-of-13 shooting and seven points in the game.

How It Happened

After falling behind 10-8, UC Davis went on an 8-0 run with 13:46 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Cameron Ba, to take a 16-10 lead. The Aggies then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 32-25 advantage. UC Davis got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 12 of its 32 total points.

Long Beach State proceeded to take a 60-53 lead before UC Davis went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Caleb Fuller's three, to even the score at 60 all with 3:49 to go in the contest. The Aggies could not turn their rally into a victory, as the Beach outscored them 8-5 the rest of the way to hand UC Davis the 68-65 loss. UC Davis got out on the break in the period, scoring seven fast break points.
