Villanova, Pa. - UC Davis outscored Villanova 4-3 in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to come back against the Wildcats in a 10-12 loss in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Trailing 6-9 entering the final period,
Kendall Seifert scored back-to-back goals to pull the Aggies within 8-9. Villanova responded with two of their own though and the teams traded goals down the stretch as
Alex Agnew scored twice in the fourth quarter as well.
Down 9-12, the Aggies took three shots on one possession until Agnew's second score of the fourth and had two shot attempts inside the final minute.
As has been customary this season, it was the Aggies who struck first on an unassisted goal by Seifert and a man-up goal by
Mia Lawrence that was assisted by
Mia Lawrence made it 2-0 5:29 into the game.
UC Davis led 5-3 with 6:45 until the half after two more goals by Seifert and
Brooke Tokushige but Villanova made their 6-1 run around an
Ella Brislin goal to take a 6-9 lead into the fourth period.
Agnew had her seventh multi-assist game of the season with two. She's now just one shy of reaching a tie for 10th on the UC Davis single season all-time list. Seifert's four goals were a season-high and pushed her team-leading scoring total to 21 goals as her career season continues.
Saturday's game closed out a three-game Pennsylvania swing for the Aggies and they'll return home to face Oregon on April 9.
