MORAGA, Calif. - Bryan Green threw a career-high 5 2/3 scoreless innings on Tuesday afternoon but UC Davis fell 1-0 to Saint Mary's in the final game of the season series against the Gaels.
Green did not allow a baserunner until the third inning and scattered three walks and three hits along with three strike outs before departing for Daniel Carrion with two outs in the sixth inning.
Carrion got a ground ball to second to end the inning and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh before Saint Mary's rallied in the bottom of the eighth.
A one-out triple and a single made it 1-0 Gaels and despite a steal and a wild pitch that brought a runner to third twice more in the inning, the Aggies limited the damage to one run. James Williams III got the second out of the inning at home and Carrion got strike three swinging to end the inning.
Mark Wolbert led off the ninth with a single and Raul Sandoval was hit to put a runner in scoring position with one out but the Gaels got Nathan Peng to pop up to end the game after three-hole hitter Jonah Henrickson struck out.
Tuesday's game marked season-lows for the Aggie pitching staff in runs allowed (1), hits (6), and extra base hits (1). UC Davis pitchers got into just five three-ball counts against Gaels hitters.
Henrickson went 1-4 and has now hit safely in three straight games and four of UC Davis' five games overall.
UC Davis is quickly approaching the end of it's non-conference schedule with just a Mar. 8 home date against Pacific left before Big West Conference games begin on Mar. 18. The Aggies will open the conference season on the road at UC Irvine.
