UC Davis tames Bears in Sunday matinee

Tedrow, Porco score goals for Aggies before long road swing

DAVIS, Calif. — Sophomore Lizzy Tedrow and senior Izzy Porco each netted goals while Kalli Wagnon posted four saves, leading UC Davis to a 2-1 win over Brown in collegiate women's action at the Aggie Field Hockey Facility Sunday morning.

The Aggies improve to 4-3 for the year. The Bears even their record to 3-3.

Tedrow put UC Davis on the board in the 28th minute when Shea Gavin sent a pass to the left side of the circle, then Tedrow buried the shot on the right side of the frame. Porco made it 2-0 with 1:26 remaining in the third quarter, converting a pass from Audrey Matthew. Both Porco and Matthew also had defensive saves for the game, adding to goalkeeper Kalli Wagnon's total of four stops.

Oddly, Brown outshot UC Davis by a 21-12 margin and had 13 short corners to the Aggies' four, but did not get on the board until the final minute, when Dani van Rootselaar stole the ball in the UC Davis defensive end then advanced unassisted to the goal.

The Aggies kick off America East play with a game at UMass Lowell on Friday, launching a stretch of five straight road games in five different states.
