The Aggies, who had their 2020-21 season cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, finished 13-5-2 overall and 5-1-1 in Big West play in 2019, claiming the league title with wins over Cal State Fullerton in the semifinals and UC Santa Barbara in the championship match to advance to the NCAA Tournament where UC Davis was a No. 14 national seed and earned a first-round bye, hosting Louisville. The Aggies are already garnering some national acclaim, standing among those receiving votes in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll, while scheduled to face three others in those same preseason rankings: No. 9 Washington, receiving votes Saint Mary's, and receiving votes San Diego State.

NEWS & NOTABLES: Following a split of their two exhibition contests to start the fall, the UC Davis women's soccer team officially opens its 2021 campaign on the road this week, traveling to Las Vegas, Nev., as one of four teams competing at the Las Vegas Invitational hosted by UNLV. The Aggies and Rebels are joined by New Mexico and Dixie State in the two-day event as UC Davis opens against the Lobos, before taking on the host side. The Aggies opened their preseason schedule in style, opening the floodgates in a 4-0 triumph over Nevada at Aggie Soccer Field on Aug. 9 in a match that was moved to Aggie Soccer Field at the last minute due to air quality concerns in Lake Tahoe — the original site of the match. UC Davis and Pacific then battled the heat and each other to a 1-1 draw through regulation and an overtime period before the Tigers struck for the winner midway through the second OT for the win.
