RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Thanks to singles victories from
Chethan Swanson,
Arjith Jayaraman,
Andras Necz and
Ivan Thamma, UC Davis swept the singles round in Friday's Big West Conference match at SRC Tennis Courts to defeat UC Riverside, 4-1, in the penultimate dual of the year for the Aggies.
Men's tennis will now head to UC Irvine for Saturday's 11 a.m. regular-season finale with wins in its last two matches, an 8-9 overall and 2-3 Big West record. UC Riverside is now 1-11 and 0-5.
Thamma started his day with a 6-1 doubles victory alongside
David Goulak, but the Highlanders won the doubles point by taking the final two matches in action.
Even though the Aggies entered the singles round trailing 1-0, that was the lone highlight of the day for the Highlanders since Swanson tied the overall score at on with his 6-1, 6-0 result against Bingru Chen.
As play continued, Jayaraman recorded a 6-0, 6-4 straight-set sweep against Michael Blanco, followed by Necz' 6-0, 6-1 win against Jayson Blando. Once Thamma walked off his court with a 6-3, 6-1 victory of his own versus Gilbert Chung, UC Davis' other two singles matchups ended unfinished since it officially won the dual.
