BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Even though it trailed 3-2 entering the fourth inning of the first game played during Saturday's doubleheader, UC Davis' bats caught fire in the sixth inning, and thanks to six runs scored in that frame, the Aggies led for good and extended its win streak to four games, thanks to a 9-7 victory over CSU Bakersfield.

In the back-half of that twinbill, UC Davis scored three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, but a five-run second inning allowed the host Roadrunners to secure a split of Saturday's action by recording a 14-4 eight-inning result.

By winning the first two of three games played this weekend, UC Davis will return to Hardt Field tomorrow with a 9-20 overall, 4-11 Big West record. and a chance to win the weekend series. Following Saturday's action, CSU Bakersfield's records are now 7-7 and 4-3.

First pitch for Sunday's series finale is set for 1 p.m., a video stream and live stats are available for this Big West matchup.

Reaching base on a double right field in the second inning, Conner Longrie recorded the first run of the day on a double hit by Kyler Arenado. Taking first on a fielder's choice immediately preceding Arenado's at bat, Colton Evans doubled his team's lead when he touched the plate on a wild pitch thrown by 'Runner starter Cody Tucker.

Evans advanced from one corner to the other on Arenado's double to left.

Even though CSUB responded by scoring once in the bottom half of that frame, and another two the following inning, UC Davis regained the lead for good by scoring six runs on six hits in its half of the fifth inning.

Spencer Gedestad started the Aggies' scoring spree with a one-out single to center, which allowed Cooper Morrison, who led-off the inning with a walk, to score. The inning continued with a double to left from Isaiah Verrett and a single to left from Evans on consecutive at bats; each drove in a run on their respective plays. Following Arenado's sacrifice fly, which drove in Verrett, and a single to left from Nick Iverson, which pushed another Aggie home, Jalen Smith capped this offensive outburst with a single up the middle, which allowed Iverson to score their team's final run of the inning.

Kaden Riccomini picked up his second win of the season due to the activity that took place in the top of the fifth. Combined with Andrew LaCour's two-out appearance, and Nick Johnson's two innings on the mound, UC Davis' pitching staff kept the Roadrunners at bay as the Aggies picked up their fourth straight victory in the process, thanks to their 9-7 result.

In the day's second game, UC Davis' three-run fourth inning started with a one-out leadoff home run from Gedestad, followed by a walk drawn by Omar Plascencia and consecutive singles from Arenado and Evans, with the latter leading to a pair of runs.

In the following inning, Jake Brandel was hit by a pitch on a 1-1 count, and scored after Plascencia and Arenado hit a single and double, respectively, to pull UC Davis within five runs after CSU Bakersfield started this matchup by scoring twice in the first and third innings, and another five in the second.

The Roadrunners eventually ended the day with a split since they were able to score in five of the innings played, including two in the eighth which ended action due to the league's 10-run rule and UC Davis' four-win streak.
