BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A pitcher's duel took place for a majority of Sunday's Big West Conference series finale at Hardt Field since UC Davis and CSU Bakersfield each scored all of their runs in their respective half of two separate innings.

The Aggies took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Kyler Arenado's double to left center drove in Conner Longrie and Michael Campagna, who reached base moments before on a single to center and a five-pitch walk.

Leading 2-0 as action continued, that score remained untouched for three full innings until the bottom of the eighth, when the Roadrunners scored all five of their runs to take the lead for good, and end the weekend with a split of the four-game series after recording a 5-2 result.

UC Davis will return home with a 9-21 overall and 4-12 Big West record, and begin prepping for its next series, which will begin on Friday at Phil Swimley Field with a 2:30 p.m. meeting against the Cal State Fullerton Titans.

CSU Bakersfield will continue its season at 8-7 and 5-3.

Until the eighth, the Aggies' successfully frustrated CSUB since it only recorded three hits throughout the seven innings leading up to that frame. Also taking place in that inning was an outstanding defensive play by right fielder Isaiah Verrett and Nick Iverson to record the first out at home.

Even though the Roadrunners were able to even the score at two prior to that play at the plate, Iverson's relay from Verrett was received just in time by Campagna to tag Jashia Morrissey and prevent CSUB from scoring the go-ahead run.

Unfortunately for UC Davis, three of the 'Runners six hits in the eighth were for extra bases and it only had one set of at bats remaining after ending that inning on a double play.

In the ninth, Jalen Smith reached first on a one-out single to right, and was joined on base shortly thereafter by Cooper Morrison after he earned a free pass to first. With the game-tying run at the plate on two occasions, CSUB thwarted the Aggies' comeback attempt each time by recording outs on each occasion.
