DAVIS, Calif. – Chethan Swanson opened Friday's Golden State Invitational dual against San Francisco with a 6-0 doubles win alongside
Arjith Jayaraman, and ended his afternoon in the Aggies' tournament opener with a three-set victory over David Woodland. After winning the first set by a 6-4 score, Swanson dropped the second set but stormed back to win the decisive frame, 6-4.
That was one of four victories earned by the Aggies throughout singles play as
Ivan Thamma,
Andrei Volgin and
Andras Necz all recorded straight-set results versus Nitzan Ricklis (6-4, 6-4), Paul Giraud (6-1, 6-3) and Phuc Hyunh (6-4, 6-3) to lift UC Davis to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Dons.
This is the fifth straight win for the Big West's hottest team; the Aggies will return to the Marya Welch Tennis Center for Saturday's 10 a.m. Golden State Invitation finale against New Mexico State with a 5-4 record.
San Francisco will continue tournament play at Sacramento State, the event's co-host in addition to the Aggies, with a 3-2 record.
