DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis opened Saturday's Golden State Invitational home match with a 6-4 win by
David Goulak and
Ivan Thamma, then clinched the doubles point when
Mitchell Davis and
Andrei Volgin edged Martin Simecek and Corey Clarke, 7-6, in the decisive third doubles match to give it an early 1-0 overall lead.
Andras Necz doubled the Aggies lead with a 6-1, 6-1 singles win and Goulak completed his individual sweep when he recorded a straight-set victory of his own (6-2, 7-5) over Martin Simecek.
Even though New Mexico State made this match at the Marya Welch Tennis Center a little interesting by winning the next two singles contests that finished, Thamma slammed the door shut on the Aggies when he won his three-set battle versus Louis Menard, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3.
By winning its sixth-consecutive match, UC Davis improved its record to 6-4; New Mexico State will return home at 2-9.
