DAVIS, Calif. – Behind individual sweeps from
Arjith Jayaraman and
Andrei Volgin in Thursday's non-conference match at the Marya Welch Tennis Center, UC Davis defeated Nevada, 4-3, in the only dual scheduled this week for the Aggies.
With its result over the Wolf Pack, UC Davis improves to 1-4. Nevada will continue its season at 0-2.
Jayaraman and his doubles partner,
Dariush Jalali, began the day with a 6-3 victory over Matheo Coupu and Benjamin Campi. After Nevada pulled even by winning the following doubles matchup, the Aggies collected the doubles point after
Mitchell Davis and Volgin's 7-5 result against Satchel Benn and Loris Zisswiller.
As the first singles matchup to finish, Volgin ended up recording his second individual sweep in the last three duals, thanks to his 6-0, 6-2 result against Juan Batalla.
Responsible for the Aggies' second team point earned during singles play, Jayaraman also earned his second victory of the afternoon with a straight-set result of his own.
Once he defeated Satchel Benn 6-2, 7-5, UC Davis needed only one more team point to clinch its first win of the season.
The Aggies were able to celebrate that result once
Ivan Thamma posted a 7-6, 6-4 victory vs. Isaac Nortey — his second at the No. 1 spot this season.
Men's tennis will now experience an eight-day break in its schedule before returning to action on Saturday, March 6 at Point Loma in the first of two matches scheduled throughout its upcoming San Diego road swing.
