DAVIS, Calif. – Freshman Olive Maunupau experienced a Division I debut she will never forget when UC Davis hosted UC Santa Barbara in Saturday's 2021 season opener at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. By defeating Lise Sentenac in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, the San Francisco native was responsible for the Aggies' lone singles victory in a Big West Conference match the visiting Gauchos won by a 4-2 score.

UC Davis will have an opportunity to rebound from that result when it heads to Sacramento State for Sunday's 12 p.m. rivalry matchup. The Aggies will enter that event with a 0-1 record and UCSB will continue its season at 1-0.

In addition to Maunupau's singles performance, the Aggies came up clutch during doubles play as well by winning two of three matchups to earn the day's first team point.

Lauren Ko and Sara Tsukamoto were the first to finish after securing a 6-3 victory at No. 1, followed by Yana Gurevich and Kristina Evloeva, whose 7-3 tiebreaker result in their matchup at the No. 3 position clinched the doubles round for UC Davis.
