No. 10 UC Davis hosts No. 9 Fresno State in the first of four meetings with the Bulldogs

DAVIS, Calif. — The long-awaited season opener for the UC Davis equestrian team is finally here as the Aggies officially open the 2020-21 season at home on Saturday, welcoming Fresno State to Northern California for the first of four meetings with the Bulldogs. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. from the UC Davis Equestrian Center.

IN THE RANKINGS…
UC Davis enters its first competition of the season ranked No. 10 in the nation according to the most recent poll released by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association on Tuesday (Feb. 9). Fresno State is ranked No. 9 in the country.

SERIES NOTES…
Fresno State has won the previous four meetings with UC Davis, posting wins of 12-4 and 16-3 in 2018-19, and 12-7 and 14-5 in 2019-20. This will be the third all-time meeting between the two programs in Davis, Calif.

AGGIE STORYLINES…
• Saturday will serve as the season opener for both programs.
• UC Davis is coming off a 2019-20 season that saw the Aggies finish 3-6 overall and 2-1 against Eastern College Athletic Conference opponents, winning three of their final four meets of the season.
• Under the direction of Head Coach Jessie Weisinger, UC Davis is entering its third year of collegiate competition after adding the sport in the spring of 2018.
• After finishing 1-5 in their debut season, the Aggies tripled their win total in 2019-20, finishing 3-6 against a schedule that featured six nationally ranked foes — including a meet against No. 1 Auburn.
• The No. 10 ranking matches the highest in the history of the program.
• UC Davis returns 24 letter winners off of last year's roster and welcomes nine newcomers — eight freshmen and one transfer — for the 2020-21 campaign.
• Outside of the arena, junior Oceana Haaland was named the Big West Conference's representative to the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, becoming the first national SAAC representative to represent the Big West from UC Davis.
