DAVIS, CA -- Elijah Pepper hit a dagger 3-pointer with 42 seconds left in the fourth quarter to put UC Davis up 61-54, and the Aggies held on for a 63-57 win against the Pacific Tigers at home Wednesday.
The Aggies (3-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Pepper, who had 30 points, just shy of his career-high of 32 set against Long Beach State on Feb. 13, 2021. Ezra Manjon tacked on 14 points, the fifth time in six games this season he's hit double figures. Kane Milling added six points and four assists and Aaron Murphy pulled down a career-high seven rebounds to go along with four points.
UC Davis out-rebounded Pacific 34-24 in Wednesday's game, led by Murphy.
After jumping out to a 17-16 advantage, UC Davis went on a 6-0 run with 7:50 left in the first half, punctuated in a three from Milling, to increase its lead to 23-16. The Aggies then added eight points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 36-21 advantage. UC Davis scored 24 of its 36 points in the first half on threes.
The Tigers forced a tie at 52-52 before UC Davis went on a 6-0 run. Pepper hit a deep three to make it 55-52 and another one from beyond NBA range with 1:37 to go all but clinch it at 58-52.
Wednesday night's win snapped a three-game skid for the Aggies with one more game to go in this three-game home stand. The Aggies will host UC Merced at 2 p.m. on Saturday, the first game of a double-header at University Credit Union Center that will see the UC Davis women's team take on Washington State in the afternoon.
