Aggies power past Tritons in four

Utterback with 15 kills, Aimufua with 11 more; Radakovic collects career-high 10 blocks

DAVIS, Calif. -- Freshman Olivia Utterback shared match-high honors with 15 kills and hit .467 on the night, while sophomore Lana Radakovic collected a career-high 10 blocks on the night while hitting .438 herself, helping lead UC Davis to a 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 18-25, 25-18) victory over visiting UC San Diego on Thursday night at the University Credit Union Center.

The Aggies improved to 9-15 overall and 5-8 in Big West Conference play with the victory, splitting the regular season series with the Tritons. UCSD fell to 8-16 overall and 5-8 in league contests, led by 15 kills from Sabire Karacaova.

Utterback committed just one error in 30 swings on the night, adding 11 digs to complete the double-double and capping off her night with five blocks for a team-high 18.5 points. Radakovic finished with a hitting line of 8-1-16 en route to her best night offensively since collecting 12 kills and hitting .545 against Hawai'i at home on Sept. 25. Her 10 blocks surpassed her previous best of seven set against San Francisco in 2019 and matches earlier this year in a sweep of Long Beach State on Oct. 23.

Freshman Amara Aimufua added 11 kills for her 14th double-digit kill performance of the year, while sophomore Shira Lahav scooped up 19 digs in the four-set win.

As a team, UC Davis hit .355 on the night, committing just eight total errors offensively -- the second-lowest total of the year behind only the six committed in 83 swings at UC Riverside on Sept. 21. Defensively, the Aggies limited the Tritons to a .210 hitting percentage on the night, including marks of .083 and .043 in the second and fourth sets, respectively.

UC Davis out-blocked UC San Diego, 15-1, on the evening, as junior Josephine Ough, who hit .438 with seven kills without an error in 16 swings, finished with four blocks for the match, bringing her season total to 94 on the year -- just nine away from her single-season best of 103 set back in 2019. Three other Aggies chipped in with two blocks apiece as the 15 blocks were the most since UC Davis finished with 19 in a win over UC Santa Barbra on Oct. 16.

The weekend concludes on Saturday (Nov. 6) as the Aggies host UC Irvine at 7 p.m. It's "Senior Night" at the University Credit Union Center as UC Davis will honor its departing senior class prior to first serve against the Anteaters.
