Ough leads Aggies in battle with Bakersfield

Junior posts her third straight double-digit kill performance

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis junior Josephine Ough finished with a team-high 10 kills and hit .381 on the night, adding five of the team's 14 blocks at the net, but visiting CSU Bakersfield proved to be too tough, posting a 3-0 (25-23, 25-28, 25-23) victory over the Aggies on Thursday night at the University Credit Union Center.

Suffering its fourth straight defeat, UC Davis fell to 5-11 overall and 1-4 in Big West Conference play heading into Saturday afternoon's battle with powerhouse Cal Poly at 3 p.m. The Roadrunners improved to 9-4 overall and 2-3 in league play with the win.

Ough's 10 kills marked her third straight double-digit kill performance and her fifth overall on the year. During her recent run, Ough is hitting .380 from the floor (38-8-79), including a career-high 15 kills on hitting .483 at UC Irvine to start the streak.

Her five blocks gave her 66 total for the year, logging at least two blocks in every match this year and ranking second in the league at 1.32 blocks per set following Thursday's match. Ough also leads the league at press time, hitting .424 on the year, committing only 15 errors in 238 swings.

Freshman Olivia Utterback added four more blocks to go with six kills, freshman Julia Ng finished with 12 digs, and freshman setter Casi Newman finished with 25 assists. Overall, UC Davis finished with eight aces from the service line, tying the season high set against Santa Clara on Sept. 4.
