DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis served up a season-high 12 aces and limited visiting UC Riverside to just .080 hitting on the night, opening the second round of Big West Conference play with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-15) sweep of the Highlanders on Tuesday evening at the University Credit Union Center.
The Aggies won their second consecutive match -- and their third in the last four outings -- to improve to 8-14 overall and 4-7 in league play. UC Riverside, which dropped both ends of the season series with UC Davis, fell to 5-16 overall and 1-10 in the Big West.
The 12 aces marked the second time this season that the Aggies have finished in double figures and the most since they racked up 13 against CSUN on Oct. 29, 2015. Sophomore
Shira Lahav had six on the night, while five others chipped in at least one.
Sophomore
Demari Webb finished with a match-high 11 kills and hit .435 on the night, adding a pair of digs and two blocks, while freshman setter
Casi Newman finished a dig shy of a double-double with 18 assists and nine digs. Lahav finished with a match-high 14 digs, while junior
Josephine Ough added three more blocks to her total to lead the defense.
UC Riverside committed 18 errors, hitting no higher than the .139 mark in the second set. The Highlanders had three players with double-digit digs, led by 13 apiece from Dejah Dade and Amarachi Osuji.
UC Davis hits the road to wrap up the week, heading to Honolulu to take on first-place Hawai'i on Friday (Oct. 29) at 10 a.m. PT / 7 p.m. HT. The Rainbow Wahine swept the Aggies, 3-0, in Davis back on Sept. 25 in the first meeting between the two schools this year.
