Aggies fall in four at UC San Diego

Aimufua posts match-high 16 kills, Ough adds 13 more with five blocks

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Freshman Amara Aimufua finished with a match-high 16 kills and junior Josephine Ough added 13 more to go with five blocks on the night, but it wasn't enough to lift the UC Davis women's volleyball team past host UC San Diego as the Tritons posted a 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20) victory on Saturday night at RIMAC Arena.

The Aggies fell to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in league play, while UCSD improved to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

Aimufua hit .222 on the night, adding five digs and a pair of blocks, recording her second consecutive double-digit kill performance and her fifth in her last six matches. The freshman from Woodland Hills, Calif., now has nine double-digit kill matches on the year — the most by an Aggie this season.

Ough, meanwhile, finished the Southern California swing with her second straight double-digit kill performance as well, hitting .276 on the night en route to her fourth match of 10-or-more kills this season. Her five blocks were the most since she recorded eight against Utah Valley on Sept. 10, and she has recorded at least two blocks in every match this year, leading the team with 61 overall.

Sophomore Perri Starkey was one of three UC Davis players with double-digit digs on the night, finishing with a team-high 13 scoops. Sophomore Shira Lahav (12) and freshman Olivia Utterback (11) joined her in double figures, with Utterback nearly recording a double-double with nine kills while adding three aces.

The Aggies open a four-match homestand on Thursday (Oct. 7) at 6 p.m., welcoming CSU Bakersfield to the University Credit Union Center, before Cal Poly pays a visit on Saturday (Oct. 9) at 3 p.m.
