DAVIS, Calif. - Junior managerial economics major Brett Erwin was dealing for the UC Davis Aggies on Friday, allowing just two runs in a 5-2 victory against the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers.
The quality outing from Erwin (2-0) earned him the victory on the mound for UC Davis (8-5). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Freshman Kaden Riccomini also pitched well, going three shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out two.
In the batter's box, the Aggies were led by sophomore biomedical engineering major Kyler Arenado, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Junior mechanical engineering major Spencer Gedestad compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and two walks. Junior communication major J.D. Mico also chipped in for UC Davis, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
Trailing 2-0, the Aggies first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. UC Davis' offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of freshman applied physics major Mike Campagna.
The Mountaineers failed to push any runs across before the Aggies built on their lead in the eighth inning. UC Davis pushed across a run on Arenado's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Aggies. The score remained 5-2 for the rest of the game, as UC Davis held on for the win.
