Baseball America names 24-inning epic one of top games of the season

Davis, Calif. - UC Davis' 24-inning marathon of a game against Loyola Marymount on Feb. 28 and 29 captured the attention of anyone within earshot of Dobbins Stadium those two days and it continues to remain a fixture in the collegiate baseball world.

The Aggies' 4-3 win on Spencer Gedested's walk-off sac fly found its way on to Baseball America's top 25 college baseball games of 2020. UC Davis is the highest mid-major to feature on the list and the highest of the three Big West Conference games to be picked.

A game that started at 2 p.m. on Friday and ended the next day set a Big West record for longest game by innings. It also saw Tanner Murray set a UC Davis record for at-bats in a single game and Murray tied his school record for doubles in a single game with three, the last of which came in the bottom of the 24th and set him up to score the winning run.

The game fell just short of the NCAA record of 25 innings.

More moments from this game will feature on a list of top-five moments from this past season, set to be released on ucdavisaggies.com on Sunday with a complete look back through the eyes of UC Davis players to come later.
