Fresno, Calif. - UC Davis put the finishing touches on what became a 9-7 win over UT Martin on Saturday but fell 14-5 in a full meet against Fresno State to wrap up two days of riding in Fresno.
After finishing Horsemanship and Flat up 5-3 on on UT Martin Friday, the Aggies tied 2-2 in Fences and Reining to win by that same margin.
Sierra Gundersen earned Fences MOP with a career-high 83 on Cru, an impressive 16-point win for the freshman.
Sabin Marquardt earned an 81 on Mac, a six-point win and her second Fences score over 80 of the season for the Aggies second Fences point.
UC Davis wrapped up the win with Reining where
Charlize Zuraek and
Macey Newkirk earned points with a 68.5 and 65.5 respectively.
That win was UC Davis' first of the season and was doubly important coming against an Eastern College Athletic Conference opponent in the Skyhawks.
After wrapping up against UT Martin, the Aggies rolled right into a full meet against Fresno State, the second time the two California schools have squared off this season.
Keely Laughlin earned one UC Davis point with an 82 on Happy for a 16-point win and
Ella Longo earned a two-point win on Carl with a 70. Laughlin's score was her third Fences score over 80 in seven meets, while Marquardt fell to eventual Fences MOP Cecily Hayes but posted her second 80-plus score with an 83.
Laughlin went on to take a nine-point win in Flat with a 70 for her second win against the Bulldogs and
Amber Ide earned UC Davis' second Flat point with a career-high 75.
Though Fresno State swept Horsemanship from the Aggies',
Kendal Scheiner continued her winning ways in Reining. With 69.5 on Saturday, Scheiner is now 4-2-1 in Reining on the season.
UC Davis now have two weeks between meets before traveling to visit another ECAC opponent in South Dakota State on Feb. 22.
