LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Aggies rebounded to defeat UC San Diego 4-3 in La Jolla, wrapping a two-match roadswing through San Diego. 

UC Davis was without freshman Andrei Volgin in the lineup, featuring a new tandem of David Goulak and Daniel Landa at No. 2, who were victorious in their opener this season to tie doubles action. On court three, Andras Necz and Dariush Jalali were the deciding match, but fell in a tiebreaker, dropping the doubles point. 

In singles play, Goulak put up a solid 6-2, 6-2 win over Neil Tengbumroong to tie the overall score 1-1, before the Tritons claimed the match on court four to take a 2-1 lead. 

That would be the last lead for the Tritons, as Jalali picked up a win at No. 6, kicking off a string of Aggie wins. Ivan Thamma won 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1 to bring the Aggies within one of the official four-match threshold. 

In a battle of three-set matches, Arjith Jayaraman and Andras Necz each won the second set on both courts to force a third. Jayaraman got an early break to dominate the third set, clinching the match with a 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 5.  

Necz saved not one, not two, but three match points in the second to force a tiebreaker, but fell 4-6 in the third set after the clinch, bringing the match score to 4-3.

UC Davis will return to Marya Welch Tennis Center next Friday and Saturday, co-hosting the Golden State Invitational with Sacramento State. UC Davis will face UT Arlington in the first round on Friday, Mar. 6, at 10 AM.
