SAN DIEGO, Calif. — UC Davis men's tennis dropped a 0-4 decision to San Diego State for the second consecutive year, and will continue the road trip at UC San Diego on Saturday.
With David Goulak returning to the doubles lineup for the Aggies, the match got off to a solid start, as Goulak and Thamma took a two-break, 3-0 lead on the top court. The lead would not last, however, as the Aztecs won at court two, and claimed six straight games to take the doubles point on court one. Dariush Jalali and Andras Necz were leading 5-4.
In singles, the Aggies fell in straight sets on courts No. 6 and 1, in that order, while being up or battling in the remaining four matches. Necz found himself down 0-3 early in the first, but rolled through to take the opening set 6-4, while Chethan Swanson was heading to a third. Andrei Volgin dropped his first set at No. 3, but forced a third.
Swanson fell in the third set, clinching the match, while Necz was leading 6-4, 6-5. Volgin had just started his third set, while Arjith Jayaraman was battling at 6-7, 4-3 when the matches were abandoned.
The Aggies move to 6-5 in dual play, and will be back in action on Saturday at UC San Diego at 11 AM.
