Davis, Calif. -- Five UC Davis players notched at least two hits to help lead the Aggies past the North Dakota State Bison 6-2 Thursday.
Junior managerial economics major Brett Erwin (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for UC Davis (3-2). The right-hander went 5.2 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits, allowing eight walks and striking out three. Freshman mechanical engineering major Nate Freeman also made an impact on the mound for the Aggies, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.
Freshman wildlife, fish, and conservation biology major Jonah Henrickson led the hit barrage for the Aggies, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with an RBI. Sophomore Jalen Smith put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs.
Trailing 1-0, the Aggies first put runs on the board in the third inning. UC Davis' offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run triple off the bat of senior economics major Cooper Morrison.
The Aggies then held the Bison scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. UC Davis scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Smith, which brought the score to 6-1 in favor of the Aggies. North Dakota State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but UC Davis still coasted to the 6-2 win.
