DAVIS, Calif. – For the second time in as many games, junior forward
Mahlah Catline scored a goal, sophomore forward
Casey Palmer notched the second brace of her career and UC Davis' defense allowed only four shots on goal throughout the entire evening as the Aggies extended their unbeaten streak against Pacific to seven games, thanks to a 3-0 road win.
Thursday's result at Knoles Field in Stockton, Calif., pushes UC Davis' record to 2-0; the host Tigers end their season-opening homestand with a 0-3 mark.
Catline's strike, which took place eight minutes into the match, helped the Aggies take an early 1-0 lead, an advantage that remained untouched heading into halftime and nearly the entire second half.
That changed within a four-minute timespan when Palmer scored in the 83rd and 87th minute to cap an outstanding evening of soccer for the Aggies.
Palmer's first career brace took place last season when two of her shots beat Long Beach State's goalkeeper to help UC Davis post a 3-3 home draw.
Palmer now joins an exclusive list of Aggies who scored multiple goals in one game, in multiple games within a single season. Entering Thursday's non-conference game, Rochelle van Buskirk was the only Aggie in the program's Division I era to accomplish this feat.
Junior goalkeepers
Jessica Lima and
Nicki Rucki helped the Aggies earn their first shutout result of the season; the former played the first half and made one save, the latter earned her first saves of the season by finishing with three.
UC Davis nearly doubled Pacific's shot total (22-12), recorded twice as many shots on goal (9-4) and corners (9-4) in a game it dominated from start to finish.
In a campaign that ended with the program's first trip to the Big West Tournament since 2011, UC Davis scored 19 goals in 2018. This year's roster is responsible for nearly one-third of that total through two games played, and will enter Sunday's 2 p.m. home match vs. Green Bay with six to its credit.
