Aggies fall in Tuesday battle at Nevada

RENO, Nev. -- UC Davis fell to Nevada on Tuesday by a final score of 7-3. The loss comes despite the play of sophomore Spencer Gedestad, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI in this non-conference match-up in Reno, Nev.

Junior Wyatt Tucker took the loss for UC Davis, which dropped his record to 1-1. Senior Dalton Gomez earned the win for Nevada, improving to 3-2 on the season. The Aggies defeat puts their 2019 record at 15-23. With the victory, Nevada improves to 25-20 this year.

UC Davis used Tucker and four other pitchers to complete the ballgame. Tucker threw the game's first four innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on eight hits while walking none and striking out four. The other four hurlers combined to allow three runs on three hits, walk five, and fan three.

The five UC Davis pitchers worked their way through the Nevada lineup facing 40 hitters, retiring 10 via flyout.

Gedestad led the way offensively for UC Davis, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Tanner Murray provided a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Jackson O'boy also chipped in for UC Davis, going 2-for-3. Nevada's offensive attack was led by sophomore Joshua Zamora, who went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs on the day.

As a group, UC Davis pushed across their three runs on seven hits, one of which went for extra bases. The Aggies didn't get any extra help from Nevada pitchers either, as they didn't draw a walk in the ballgame.

The Aggies return to Big West Conference action this Friday (May 3) against Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. PT in Fullerton, Calif.
