LONG BEACH, Calif. — Although No. 9 UC Davis hung tight in the first half, the No. 5 Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine pulled away in the second half, delivering the Aggies a 14-7 loss in the semifinals of the Big West Championships. The Aggies will play for third place on Sunday against No. 11 UC Santa Barbara.
Chloe Robinson notched her second consecutive hat trick to lead the team with four goals, followed by Kathleen Schafle with two. Annie Kutt recorded four steals, while Schafle tacked on three assists.
In the first period, the 'Bows jumped out to a 3-0 lead, before the Aggies were able to get on the board with a goal from Robinson. Kutt would follow with her only goal of the game at 1:10 in the first to remain within striking distance of Hawai'i.
From there, however, Hawai'i would open the game up with two additional goals for a 5-2 lead, before the Aggies responded with two of their four goals of the half in the last 1:14 of the second period. At the half, the Aggies managed to stay within two of the 'Bows, but that would be the closest they would get in the game. Caitlin Golding played most of the game, recording five saves and two steals.
The Aggies continue their efforts at the Big West Championships, competing for third place against fourth-seeded UC Santa Barbara at noon on Sunday, April 28. There will be live stats through FOSH link (TBA), and a live stream provided by the Big West Conference.
