LONG BEACH, Calif. — Third-seeded No. 9 UC Davis posted a one-sided, 15-8, victory over sixth seed No. 22 CSUN in the quarterfinal of the Big West Championships. Saturday marks the third consecutive year the Aggies have made an appearance in the semifinal of the championships.

Jumping out to a quick start, the Aggies put their name on the board first from a penalty goal by Noelle Wijnbelt, before the Matadors evened the game with 2:24 remaining in the first period. From there, the Aggies stepped on the gas, putting up eight unanswered goals to shut out CSUN in the second period.

Within the eight-goal stretch, the Aggies got points from six different players, with Cassidy Smithson and Chloe Robinson each putting up two. Wijnbelt led the way for the Aggies, as she earned her eighth hat trick of the season with four total goals on the day.

Along with her own hat trick, Robinson notched an assist to bump her total to 39 for the season, breaking her tie for sixth all-time. Audrey Taylor posted a career-high four assists, with Kathleen Schafle recording three.

"[Iʻm feeling] pretty good," Wijnbelt said about her team-high four goals. "I'm really happy that we won, and I'm proud of our team that we got this far. I think if we work as a team, our passes are good, and we don't get in our heads about whatʻs going on, weʻll get it done."

The last time out against the ʻBows, the Aggies fell in a tightly contested 9-13 loss against the eventual regular season co-champion.

About the previous matchup between the Rainbow Wahine and the Aggies, head coach Jamey Wright was positive about the way the Aggies played the game.

"We played 90 percent of the game really well," said Wright. "[We played] 10 percent of the game not so well, and when you play the No. 5 team, the 10 percent is where it can hurt you. I was really impressed with our team and we were really steady. Hawaiʻi's super good, and I thought we still did a good job. One little defensive sequence here, one there, and that was it. We played a really solid game against the top ranked team in our conference, and I'm really excited. We're going to get to play them again and we'll be ready for them."

Wright was right, as the Aggies advance to face second seed No. 5 Hawaiʻi in the semifinal round of the Big West Championship at 3 PM on Saturday. The game will be live streamed here, and there will be live stats on FOSH here.
