MPSF Championships - DAY FOUR SWIMMING & DIVING FINAL RESULTS
LA MIRADA, Calif. — UC Davis senior psychology major
Solie Laughlin defended her fourth consecutive 200 back title in meet record time, while redshirt junior
Mia Facey finished second overall in the 100 free and sophomore
Katie Truong moved into second in the UC Davis top 10 list for the platform event, helping UC Davis to a second-place finish at the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Saturday night in La Mirada, Calif.Â
UC Davis capped off the four-day meet with 613.5 total points, finishing second only to defending champion, Hawai'i, who secured its fourth MPSF title in the last five seasons and led the field with 781.5 points. UC Santa Barbara placed third as a team with 544.5 points ahead of BYU in fourth with 525.5 points, Pacific in fifth (342), UC San Diego in sixth (304.5), Cal Poly in seventh (264.5), and San Diego in eighth (262).Â
Competing in the 1650 free for just the second time this season junior
Olivia Smith got things started for UC Davis with an eighth-place finish in the first final of the night, securing her place in the record books with the 10th-fastest time by an Aggie in school history (17:09.64). Sophomore
Kathryn Bockman finished 16th with a career-best time of 17:19.65, while sophomore
Leah Timmerman touched 24th overall with a time of 17:43.69.Â
Laughlin then captured her fourth consecutive title in the 200 back with a career-best NCAA "B" standard and new MPSF meet record time of 1:53.45. Laughlin also successfully defended her fourth career MPSF title in the 400 IM on Friday. Motekaitis finished seventh on the night with a season-best time of 2:00.05—the fifth-fastest time in the UC Davis record books--while junior
Mia Cunnan touched third in the consolation final and 11th overall with a season-best time of 2:02.39—the seventh-fastest time by an Aggie in program history.
Facey then tied for second in the 100 free alongside Anna Kotonen (Hawai'i), earning crucial points for the Aggies with a career-best time of 50.10. Facey currently ranks fifth in the all-time record books in the event and tied for third in the 50 free (22.92) after she became the fourth Aggie in program history to break 23 seconds en route to a third-place finish on Wednesday. She was joined by
Jamie Pincin (50.32) and
Iris Brand (50.37) in the "A" final of the 100 free, who went on to finish sixth and seventh overall, respectively.Â
Senior
Kristin Schumann led the Aggies in the 200 breaststroke championship final, touching fifth overall with a season-best time of 2:14.65. Sophomore
Kyla Leacox also turned in a season-best time of 2:19.48 to finish 15th overall and Timmerman touched 24th on the night with a time of 2:26.53.Â
In the last individual final of the night, freshman
Amanda Wilson logged the fourth-fastest time by an Aggie in program history in the 200 fly en route to a fourth-place overall finish, ahead of senior
Eva Chung in fifth who recorded a career-best time of 2:01.90. Smith finished eighth on the night with a time of 2:06.47, while Gonzalez won the consolation final (2:02.63).
UC Davis then closed out the swimming portion of the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay after the quartet of Pincin, Motekaitis, Brand, and Facey turned in a season-best time of 3:21.10.Â
Meanwhile at the Marguerite Aquatics Center in Mission Viejo, Calif., sophomore
Katie Truong finished seventh overall in the platform final with a career-high score of 221.35, a score that also allowed her to jump three spots into second in the UC Davis record books behind Shaifali Goyal, who posted a score of 229.90 at the 2017 MPSF Championships. Fellow sophomore
Alisha Miller also turned in a career-best mark of 200.80 en route to an 11th place finish, while freshman
Londen Christensen finished 12th (189.15), senior
Inessa Toropov finished 13th with a career-best score of 189.00, freshman
Taylor Hornberger finished 14th (187.00), and sophomore
Amanda Chau finished 16th with a career-high score of 179.20.Â
