Young And Lim Put On Show At NCAA Zone E Championships

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Mackenzie Young and Katherine Lim each put together a solid week of dives across three events, representing UC Davis women's diving at the NCAA Zone E Championships held this week from Mar. 9-11.

Young and Lim both qualified for the 1m, 3m and platform events with Young competing in all three while Lim dove the 1m and 3m events.

"I'm very proud of both Katherine and Mackenzie," said assistant diving coach Laurel Abernethy. "I'm glad that they both chose to compete at this very high-level event and were able to gain experience and prepare themselves for the next level. They did well, learned to be in a highly competitive environment and enjoyed their time at the meet. I'm very impressed with their composure all week long."

DAY ONE (1m): On the opening day, Lim led the pace for the Aggie posting a score of 213.35 over six dives to finish 38th overall. On her third dive, Lim scored a 40.80 to place 21st in the round, giving the Aggies a top 25 round finish on the 1m.

Young finished 46th, scoring 202.00 over her six dives. Her third dive matched Lim's 40.80 to tie her Aggie teammate for 21st in the round to post a pair of Aggies inside that round's top 25.

DAY TWO (3m): Young nearly punched her ticket into the finals, finishing 24th overall on the 3m with a score of 245.90, missing the cut by just six spots. Her fourth dive was one of the strongest off the 3m all day long, scoring 54.60 to finish fourth in that round, and her final dive placed her 15th in the sixth round (46.20).

Lim finished 40th with a 222.60, and much like her teammate Young, her final dive was strong scoring 46.20 to finish 15th in that round.

DAY THREE (Platform): Just like on the 3m, Young came close to advancing into the finals finishing 21st after five dives on the platform event coming within three spots of finishing ahead of the cut off. She scored 213.20 and finished fifth with a score of 53.20 in the fourth round of her five dives.
