LA MIRADA, Calif. — A fourth-place finish in the 800 free relay and a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay ranked the UC Davis women's swimming and diving team third overall with 62 points after closing out day one of the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at the La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center in La Mirada, Calif. on Wednesday.Â
Hawai'i leads the eight-team field with 80 points after taking home top honors in the 800 free relay with a winning time of 7:13.59 as well as the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.35. UC Santa Barbara trails the Rainbow Wahine with 68 points after placing second in both events, while Pacific trails UC Davis by a narrow four-point margin after taking third in the 800 free relay and sixth in the 200 medley relay.Â

Iris Brand posted a season-best time of 7:22.97 en route to a fourth-place finish in the 800 free relay, the quartet of
Solie Laughlin,
Kristin Schumann, Motekaitis, and
Mia Cunnan helped UC Davis close out the night with a podium finish in the 200 medley relay, putting together the fastest time by the Aggies this season at 1:40.73.Â
Day two of the swimming competition will get underway at 9 a.m. tomorrow (Feb. 21) with prelims for the 500 free, 200 IM, and 50 free, followed by finals in those events plus the 200 free relay beginning at 5 p.m. Prelims for the women's 1-meter program will begin at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 12:30 p.m. at the Marguerite Aquatics Center in Mission Viejo, Calif.Â
