JONESBORO, Ark. -  In a game that included 10 tied scores and nine lead changes, freshman guard Ezra Manjon's free throw, made with nine seconds left in regulation, tied the score at 66 and forced overtime for the first time this season. In the final moments of OT, it was freshman guard Elijah Pepper's turn to step up and make a clutch play, which he did when he hit a three right in front of his bench to even things at 74 and add another five minutes to the scoreboard.

But it was VMI that scored the final four points of the game, all at the free throw line, to pull away from the Aggies and collect a win by an 89-84 score.

UC Davis will return from Jonesboro, Ark., site of the Red Wolves Classic (hosted by Arkansas State) with a 2-3 record. VMI will continue its season at 1-5.

Led by senior guard Joe Mooney and his 25 points, four Aggies finished in double figures. Four of Mooney's seven field goals were hit from distance, and he connected on 7 of 8 shots at the stripe.

After posting a new career high in scoring in Thursday's victory vs. Idaho (18 points), sophomore guard Caleb Fuller nearly matched that total in Sunday morning's game and finished with 16.

Manjon added another 15 points, and senior center Matt Neufeld chipped in another 12 points.

Pepper, a freshman guard, posted eight points and led all Aggies with a career-high 10 rebounds — nearly one-fourth of the team's total since it finished with 43.

As was the case with Pepper, Kennedy Koehler's defense frustrated the Keydets all game long by forcing turnovers and crashing the glass on both ends of the court. The junior transfer finished his day with eight points and eight rebounds, both career highs.

UC Davis will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 20, when it faces Sacramento State in the annual Causeway rivalry game hosted by the Golden 1 Center. Tipoff for this season's matchup is slated for 5:30 p.m. as part of that day's college basketball doubleheader. Saint Mary's and Fresno State will start their game at 8 p.m. or 30 minutes after the Aggies-Hornets game ends, whichever is later.
