DAVIS, Calif. – Caleb McGill, a 6-foot-7 forward from Aurora, Colorado, signed a National Letter of Intent with UC Davis basketball during the fall window, as announced by head coach
Jim Les.
"On the court Caleb is a highly skilled and versatile forward. His ability to play different positions on the floor will be a major asset to our program. At 6'7" he can shoot from the perimeter, play off the dribble, post up, and is someone that we can run offense through because of his high IQ and passing ability," said head coach
Jim Les.
"We also love his competitive fire and work ethic – things that have helped him enjoy a tremendous amount of success at the high school level, and will lead to continued success for him in college."
"During my official visit, I felt at home with the team, and felt the coaches were very genuine and honest people that I could see myself playing for in the future. The campus and people that surround the program all just felt like home to me," said McGill.
McGill, an AP Scholar with Distinction, three-year academic and athletic letterwinner, is equally successful on the court by leading Grandview High School to a 5A State championship in 2018. That successful postseason run ended with 5A Playoff All-Team accolades.
The Wolves posted a 24-4 overall and 11-3 league record, won its last 11 games in a row, earned a No. 1 ranking among all Colorado high school teams and finished No. 37 in the nation.
Throughout McGill's tenure at GHS, the basketball program has enjoyed nothing but success and is consistently ranked among the country's top programs. Entering his senior year, the Wolves won 80 percent of their games (64-16 combined record) and 33 of 42 matchups against league opponents (.786 winning percentage).
Capped by that championship in 2018, Grandview High School enjoyed deep postseason runs in the State Playoffs every year with McGill on the team's roster.
A McGill-led Grandview team won a 5A Centennial championship last year and will begin its title defense in early January when league play commences. In addition to helping the Wolves win another championship, McGill's junior season also included All-State honors.
"What excites me the most about this opportunity to represent UC Davis is the other great people that I and this community could attract. I think the people at UC Davis are amazing, and I look forward to making connections with the community and future teammates that I'll see daily next year," McGill said.
"First and foremost Caleb is an exceptional young man. He excels in the classroom, in the community and is welcomed addition to the UC Davis family. He fits in very well with his future teammates; everyone that we talked to about Caleb during the recruiting process spoke highly of his character. We are excited to add someone like him to our culture," Les added.
Named one of the top big men at the NY2LA Sports Futures Camp, McGill's individual honor roll also includes First Team recognition from this organization.
Last summer, the NCAA selected McGill to participate in one of its four new NCAA youth development camps. He was part of a select list of individuals from across the country to develop their skills, from an athletic and academic perspective, and prepare for the daily rigors faced by Division I student-athletes.
