Doubles Qualifying

FRESNO, Calif. — Aggie doubles highlights the final day in the 'No, as Daniel Landa and Andrei Volgin took the top doubles flight title. In Oklahoma, Ivan Thamma fell in the third round of prequalifying, but play continues tomorrow with the doubles qualifying draw.
Opening the morning for UC Davis men's tennis, Volgin won his second consecutive doubles title, and moves to 7-0 in doubles so far this year. Partnering with Landa, the tandem put up a dominant win over Cal Poly's Roman Shenkirk and Andrew Whitehouse, winning 8-3.
In singles, Volgin split sets with UC Riverside's Daniel Velek, but fell 10-5 in the third set tiebreak. Landa was also in action in the A flight consolation, but fell to Fernando Fonseca of Cal Poly.
Dariush Jalali recorded the only full singles win for the Aggies during Sunday's play, defeating Anton de la Puente of Causeway Cup rival Sacramento State, 7-6(8), 4-6, 1-0(6). Chethan Swanson also walked off the court with a win, as his opponent James Watt (SMC) retired at 5-5 in the second set.
At the ITA All-American Championships, Thamma put pressure on South Carolina's Philip Jordan, but fell 6-2, 6-4 in the third round of prequalifying.
Play continues in Tulsa, as David Goulak and Ivan Thamma take the courts for the doubles qualifying draws on Monday, Oct. 7, as the nation's No. 43 pair, facing Texas A&M's Pranav Kumar and Hady Habib at 2 PM CT at the Union 9th Grade Center.
The rest of the team will have the next two weeks off in preparation for the ITA Northwest Regional, hosted this year at Stanford, Oct. 24-28.
