MORAGA, Calif. — Women's tennis' Kristina Breisacher went undefeated, winning her first two rounds of doubles, and first in singles to lead the Aggies on the opening day of the St. Mary's Fall Invitational.
Breisacher paired with fellow senior Nikita Pradeep, and the duo nearly shut out both opponents, notching 8-1 victories in both rounds of the top flight of doubles. The team moves on to Saturday's semifinal against Pacific's Anna Ramos Vinolas and Karina Vyrlan for the first match of the day.
Also advancing out of the first round was freshman Yana Gurevich and sophomore Skyler Holm, recording an 8-5 first round win over Pacific's Hannah Ketcherside and Georgia Townsend, before falling to a Big West foe, Cal Poly's Emily Ackerman and Susanne Boyden in the B flight second round.
Although they fell in the first round of the A flight doubles, Sara Tsukamoto and Lauren Ko are still in action on Saturday in the consolation bracket, having been advanced through to the consolation semifinals due to back-to-back defaults. The pair recently upset nationally-ranked St. Mary's Mariia Kozyreva and Danielle McIntyre, who were tabbed the No. 43 team in the nation by the ITA.
Breisacher continued to roll in singles, taking out Santa Clara's Katya Tabachnik with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Breisacher moves on to face the fourth seed Lara Marco MAs (SJSU) in the round of 16. Joining Breisacher in the R16, third seed Shirley Hall narrowly edged Nadine Del Carmen of the Broncos, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and will take on Gabriela Tevez from host school St. Mary's. Ko breezed through SCU's Caitlyn Frankel 6-2, 6-3, and will play Maya Lopez (Pacific), who upset the bracket's second seed in three sets.
Saturday's action begins at 8:30 AM with one round of singles, followed by two rounds of doubles, and the tournament draw can be found here.
