SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Senior psychology majorÂ
Solie Laughlin (100 back, 200 back) and freshman environmental science and management major
Mia Motekaitis (200 free, 500 free) both doubled in their signature events against Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival UC Santa Barbara on Sunday morning. The Aggies built momentum early winning four of the first five events of the day but could not hold on, lifting the Gauchos to a 153-109 win at Campus Pool in Santa Barbara, Calif.Â
The Aggies fell to a 5-4 overall dual record and a 2-1 MPSF mark. The Gauchos improved to a 4-2 dual record on the season and remain undefeated with a 3-0 league mark.Â
Junior
Olivia Smith provided a spark for the Aggies in the second event of the day thanks to her second win of the season in the 1000 free, taking home top honors with a career-best time of 10:17.75--eclipsing her previous career-best by nearly 20 seconds--and the fastest time by an Aggie so far this season in the event.Â
Motekaitis (1:51.00) and senior
Iris Brand (1:51.32) then kept the momentum in favor of UC Davis with a close 1-2 finish in the 200 free. Brand would go on to place third overall in the 50 free (24.12) and second on the day in the 100 free (51.92).Â
Laughlin then logged her first win of the morning in the 100 back touching first overall with a time of 55.83, with fellow senior
Kristin Schumann taking home top honors in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.19) in the next event.Â
Laughlin and Motekaitis captured the Aggies' final two event wins of the afternoon in the 200 back (2:00.98) and 500 free (5:00.40), respectively, but UC Davis would fall short to UC Santa Barbara 109-153.Â
The Aggies resume action on Saturday (Feb. 2) hosting MPSF colleague Pacific in their final home meet of the 2018-19 season.Â
