DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis men's tennis extended its win streak to six to start the season undefeated with a sweep in Saturday's doubleheader against Nevada and Sonoma State.
The Aggies continued to dominate the doubles point, and is 5-0 on the season in doubles. Daniel Landa and Alex Scemanenco remain undefeated, clinching the doubles point against the Wolfpack 7-6, and cruising through the Seawolves 6-1 on court No. 2, while the other teams each notched a win.
After doubles play, Nevada evened the team score with a win at No. 5 singles, before Nil Giraldez and David Goulak lifted the Aggies to a 3-1 lead with straight set wins.
At 3-2 in favor of UC Davis, all eyes fell on No. 4 and No. 6 singles, which were locked in three set battles to decide the match. Despite letting his opponent back into the third set, sophomore Arjith Jayaraman served for the match at 5-4, and held to remain undefeated at No. 6, and to bump the Aggies to a 4-2 winning score.
In the afternoon match of the doubleheader, UC Davis quickly dispatched Sonoma State in doubles, while Dariush Jalali and Landa got to see singles action at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. The two were the first two off the court with straight set wins, before Giraldez clinched the 4-0 victory on court No. 2. Giraldez is now 5-0, and has only dropped a set in singles this season.
The Aggies look to test their win streak against No. 5 USC in a Friday morning match in Los Angeles, before ending their fourth doubleheader against Hope International in the afternoon.
