DAVIS, Calif. — In addition to capturing her third NCAA Zone Qualifying score of the season in the 1-meter program (267.23), freshman diver Taylor Hornberger set a new school record and secured her first career NCAA Zone Qualifying score in the 3-meter program (301.91), while senior Iris Brand tripled in the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 free to help UC Davis roll past San Jose State, 164.5-103.5, on Friday afternoon at Schaal Aquatics Center. 

The Aggies improve to a 5-3 overall dual record for the season, while the Spartans slip to an even 4-4 dual mark. 

Beginning Friday afternoon on a high note, the quartet of Solie Laughlin, Mia Facey, Mia Motekaitis, and Mia Cunnan turned in a first-place performance in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.22, helping UC Davis jump out to an early lead over the Spartans. 

Brand then secured her first individual win of the day in the 200 free with a winning time of 1:52.47, ahead of freshman teammate Amanda Wilson who touched second overall with a time of 1:54.57. Three events later, Brand posted back-to-back event wins in the 50 free and 100 free, which included a season-best time of 24.09 to out-touch a close second-place finish by Gabby Heng of San Jose State (24.14) in the 50 free. 

The Aggies would continue to build their lead over the Spartans with a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 breaststroke led by senior Eva Chung (2:21.03), who also took home top honors in the 200 fly with a winning time of 2:05.72. Junior Tori Kaleta and Laughlin trailed Chung, finishing second with a time of 2:22.55 and third with a 2:26.93, respectively. 

Hornberger paced the Aggies on the boards taking home top honors in both events with a pair of NCAA Zone Qualifying scores. After setting a new school record with a 301.91 in the three-meter program—previously held by Serena Yee (301.05, 2017)—the Discovery Bay, Calif. native captured her third NCAA Zone Qualifying score on the low boards with a 267.23. 

Fellow freshman Londen Christensen also turned in a pair of impressive performances for the Aggies, finishing second in the one-meter program with a score of 257.18 and third in the three-meter program with a 247.28. 

The Aggies resume action this Sunday (Jan. 27) on the road at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival UC Santa Barbara beginning at 10 a.m.
